What is an LED ribbon / what are its characteristics?

Led strip light

A  Led ribbon has characteristics that have a great influence on the result of use. Here are the main ones:
Emitting color (red, green, blue, etc.) or color temperature (warm white, neutral or cold)
The number of chips per meter (30led / m, 60, 120, 240, etc.): the fewer LEDs per meter, the more points will be visible. This is especially important indirect lighting.
The luminous intensity, or flux: it is the quantity of light emitted by the Led ribbon. It is given herein lumen per meter (lm / m)
The IRC color rendering index: the associated number represents the ability of the ribbon to show the colors of objects with the same fidelity as if these objects were lit by daylight
The electric power consumed
Efficiency: photonic/electrical efficiency
The object protection index and IP water
The width of the ribbon
The cutting step of the ribbon
The supply voltage
The led chip and its case
The adhesive
The thickness of the copper
The life of the ribbon is conditioned by three points:
Its characteristics and qualities,
Good heat dissipation,
The quality of the diet.

Heat dissipation:

A Led diode is made on a piece of silicon. Silicon is a crystal. When the temperature of this crystal is too high, the crystal structure cracks. In this case, called the OGIER effect, the LED emits definitely less light but its consumption remains the same.
Another effect is called "thermal runaway": when the LED strip heats up, its power consumption increases. The more the electrical consumption of the ribbon increases, the more it heats...
The quality of the power supply:
Voltage peaks are particularly harmful to LEDs. A power supply that does not correctly filter the sector (EDF) will have a clear tendency to reduce the life of a Led ribbon.

There are "special led" power supplies with a very low residual ripple rate.
